Advocates for Public Interest Law (APIL) Round 13th Interns Recruitment

APIL is recruiting for its 13th round of interns who can ‘gather values together’ with us.

APIL, a non-profit public interest lawyer organization, has two mandates: 1) protecting the rights of vulnerable immigrant populations such as refugees, human trafficking victims, detained migrants, stateless people, etc. and 2) monitoring the human rights violations of Korean enterprises abroad and advocating for the rights of those victims.

More specifically, APIL carries out those missions by 1) helping complete refugee status applications in the refugee recognition process and monitoring refugee interviews 2) litigating lawsuits involving the rejection of refugee status on behalf of the refugees 3) creating refugee support manuals, analyzing refugee court cases and building a search engine system for such cases 4) mediating between pro bono lawyers and refugee NGOs 5) researching the refugees’ home countries and creating a research database 6) educating and raising awareness regarding refugee issues 7) utilizing international human rights mechanisms to protect the rights of detained adult and child immigrants and propose policy reforms 8) investigating the current situation to protect stateless persons and filing constitutional litigation 9) providing legal assistance to victims of human trafficking to ensure the conviction of the perpetrators and involving in legislative advocacy for a comprehensive human trafficking law 10) investigating the human rights violations of Korean enterprises in foreign countries and carrying out various related campaigns 11) educating how to utilize international human rights mechanism.

We are looking for interns who can work with us in these areas:
– researching the situation of the refugees’ home countries (COI) and providing legal assistance during the refugee application process and litigation
– researching refugee cases and various refugee-related issues and creating a database and/or website
– performing follow-up research for the refugee law and researching the current situation for the protection of stateless people
– researching the human rights violations of Korean enterprises abroad
– researching and involving in legislative advocacy for a comprehensive human trafficking law that prevents sexual and labor exploitation
– maintaining the web site and utilizing social media tools
– producing videos and documentaries regarding refugees other human rights issues
– creating newsletters and other promotional materials
– attending meetings/forums and events hosted by related organizations
– helping manage a non-profit organization, including maintaining communication with sponsors

Interns will work from Mar. 2nd, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2017 (6 months), and will work at least four days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

And fluency in Korean is required.

A monthly stipend of KRW 500,000(before tax) and lunch will be provided.

We will send out the results of the application process via e-mail by 6 p.m. on Feb. 20th.
Those who pass the application process will be interviewed on Feb. 22nd. We will send out the final results to each individual applicant.
